Sleepy Hollow

In his legend, Washington Irving wrote of a little valley and an enchanted region, known as Sleepy Hollow. He described it as a place where ghosts and goblins roam through haunted fields, brooks and bridges. He talked of a terrible Headless Horseman who raced through the night by the Old Dutch Church. The Pocantico River now runs through the Church’s graveyard where Irving is buried. It is at the mouth of the Pocantico River that your will start your tour of Sleepy Hollow.

Sleepy Hollow Half Day/3 Hour Tour
This is great experience for beginning and experienced paddlers alike. We begin each tour with basic instruction and continue our teaching on the water, tailoring to individual needs. All of our guides are well trained and are eager to help you improve your paddling regardless of your skill set. On this tour we paddle south past “Kidd Rock” (famous for Captain Kidd’s landing), the historic Tarrytown Lighthouse (on the National Register of Historic Places) and down under the Tappan Zee Bridge. This is our most popular tour and a fantastic way to get into kayaking.

Sleepy Hollow Sunset Tour/3 Hour Tour
A great way to relax after a long week of work! The sun sets in the west and from our side of the river we are in a perfect spot to enjoy it.If you have never experienced the sunset from the river, you must come and see it.Bring a camera,you'll want to capture this moment on film!

Sleepy Hollow "Fireworks Tour"/3 Hour Tour
An awesome way to spend your 4th of July Evening. We start our paddle from Sleepy Hollow and take a route out towards the Tappan Zee Bridge on the way back we find a spot on the river where you have the best vantage point to view firework displays from all the cities on both sides of the river.

Sleepy Hollow "Full Moon Tour"
Our full moon tours are a wonderful way to get out on the water at night. Everything looks different on the river when the sun goes down. We paddle out to the historic lighthouse, and possibly up the Pocantico River. We talk about the legends and lore of Sleepy Hollow as we watch the moon rise over the hill and light up the Hudson River.

Nyack

Nyack is a historic village with a hip edge. The town is filled with well-preserved old homes, galleries, coffee houses, and fabulous restaurants. Experience this exciting area and its history from the water and enjoy the town at the end of your tour. Nyack provides incredible scenery including a bay full of sailboats, towering cliffs and a wonderful view of the Manhattan skyline.

Nyack Full Day/3 Hour Tour
Nyack is rich with large vistas and striking scenery. The tour begins with basic instruction and guides continue their teaching while on the water, tailoring to individual needs. We paddle south past the Tappan Zee Bridge to Explore the Shoreline as we travel south of Nyack towards Piermont. This is a tour that can also be offered as a full day paddle , Call our reservation line if interested in a full day tour ($125) and we will see what we can arrange .The full day Tour is recommended for the more experienced paddlers and those who have been on our three-hour tour or who have kayaked on their own. Mamaroneck / 3 Hour Tour
At this site we paddle around Mamaroneck Harbor, discovering the area’s beautiful shoreline. We also head into the sound to explore Mamaroneck's small islands, birds and local history. The Long Island Sound is rich with ecology and stories to captivate all ages.

Lessons

Kayak Fundamentals
This instructional session will give you a solid foundation for getting started in the sport. We will talk about essential gear, launching and landing your kayak, paddle strokes, tides and currents plus several rescue techniques. This lesson teaches you skills every paddler should know to safely and comfortably enjoy kayaking.

Lesson Duration: 4 hours. Fee is $75.

Private Instruction
Upon request we offer private lessons. These lessons are a great opportunity to focus on your skills that may need improvement or to concentrate on a specific new skill.

$75 per person, 2 hr minimum.
1/2 price for each additional person.

Demos

Hudson River Recreation along with American Terrain Outdoors provides weekly Kayak Demos.

Try Before You Buy:
Thursday night from 5pm to 8pm, by appointment only. There is a $25 fee per person, which is refundable upon a purchase of a kayak within 30 days. Each demo is one hour long per client and allows you to try up to 3 kayaks. Call 914-682-5135 with questions and to make an appointment.
