Hudson River Recreation Protocol

At Hudson River Recreation, the health and safety of our guests and staff is our highest priority. We have implemented special protocols which are designed to minimise the potential spread of COVID-19. These policies were created with guidance from New York State, from the Centres for Disease Control, and the American Canoe Association. However, we can’t do it without your help! For the safety of all involved, we are asking our participants to abide by these policies at all times. We reserve the right to remove participants from any program at the discretion of staff. Thank you for following these guidelines and helping all of us paddle safely this season!

  • The precautionary measures are in place to limit the possibility of spreading C-19, an unpredictable and highly communicable disease.
  • Despite our best efforts, the potential for exposure cannot be eliminated. Individual behaviour is a critical factor in limiting the spread of C-19.
  • Clients must determine whether participation in our programs is safe for them, based on their personal assessments of risk and comfort level.
  • We do not recommend that members of any high risk groups participate in our programs, at this time.
  • Guests may take additional personal precautions they deem to be necessary. We are happy to work with all guests to ensure their comfort and safety.

What We’re Doing to Protect Our Paddlers

Reservations & E-Waivers

  • All of our programs, including hourly kayak & SUP rentals, will now be BY RESERVATION ONLY. This is a necessary step to reduce contact and maintain distance between guests and staff.
  • Reservations can be made on our mobile-friendly website or via telephone.
  • Unfortunately, cash or credit cards will no longer be accepted on site.
  • Electronic Participant Waivers: Once your reservation is complete, you will receive a link to our E-Waiver form, which will allow you to e-sign it and forward it to the other members of your group.

Face Coverings

  • We must insist that all participants arrive wearing face coverings which must be worn at all times while on shore, during all pre- and post-trip activities, and during launch and landing.
  • Face coverings DO NOT NEED TO BE WORN ONCE YOU HAVE LAUNCHED. You may remove them when you are on the water.

Social Distancing

  • Social distancing is required at all times!
  • Kayaking is a healthy activity that allows for social distancing while on the water, but presents complications while embarking and disembarking.
  • By adjusting our program capacities to limit the number of guests and staff, we aim to reduce bottlenecks before & after the trip, as well as encouraging proper social distancing.
  • Layout and configuration of sites will be optimised for 6+ feet of social distance between groups.

Keeping It Clean

  • Boats, life jackets, and paddles will be cleaned after each use
  • Hand sanitiser will be readily available to guests and staff
